The hot topic in Destiny 2 right now is the Ascendant Lens. This special item is tied to the Secret Triumph, part of the Festival of the Lost 2020 event. To get the Ascendant Lens, you will need to get and use 45 Cipher Decoders. Cipher Decoders are random drops from completing activities in the game such as Crucible matches, Strikes, or Patrols.
You will need to bring them to the end of the Haunted Forest, where you will find five caches. Each one needs to be opened with a Cipher Decoder, and you need to open 45 of them in total to get the Ascendant Lens. This means a total of 9 runs through the Haunted Forest, with five Cipher Decoders each time.
When the final chest is opened, nothing will happen, but if you look at your Director and check out the Tangled Shore, you will notice that Spider’s symbol is active. Go and speak with him and he will give you the Ascendant Lens. The game describes it as “A focusing lens from the Dream City through which the Ascendant Plane can sometimes be seen”. You’ll need to make sure you have at least one open spot in your consumables inventory to be able to get it from the Spider.
The Destiny 2 community is hard at work trying to figure out what exactly the Ascendant Lens does, but at the moment it remains a mystery. Now, lots of people are looking at the Dreaming City, but we don’t think that is accurate. The Dreaming City can give access to the Ascendant Realm, but the Ascendant Plane is different, and is actually accessed through the Tangled Shore.
The Ascendant Plane is a Throne World, home to Hiraks, the Mindbender that players can access through the Mindbender Baron Hunt. So, we expect the eventual answer to involve the area. That said it could very well be linked to the Dreaming City, and not the Tangled Shore. It is, after all, The Spider who originally sets you on the path to the Dreaming City.
