For those who watched the Video Game Awards in 2019, 2020 was a year to look forward to. The game awards showcased more than a few game trailers from Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II to Ghost of Tsushima. Among the most notable of the game trailers which debuted during the show was The Elden Ring. The Video Game Awards trailer did not indicate when the game is due to come out, however, later reports have indicated that the game is due to come out in June 2020.

An Exciting Take On A Traditional RPG

The Elden Ring is slated to be a more traditional RPG, which is something that historically remains popular among gamers. An added bonus is that Miyazaki, the mastermind from FromSoftware games, has been working in conjunction with George R. R. Martin, the author of Game of Thrones, on this project. Reports have stated that Martin was heavily consulted on the setting and lore of The Elden Ring, which fans of the Game of Thrones series know will be undoubtedly comprehensive and complex.

An Exciting New Collaboration

It is very refreshing to see some new blood brought into Miyazaki’s storytelling. He has done a fantastic job on the Dark Souls franchise, but sometimes it is hard to create a totally new story and characters when you are used to creating a specific type of character and story. FromSoftware has a genius in Miyazaki and his games are popular for a reason, but it is nice to think about the possibilities this collaboration can bring. Both Martin and Miyazaki are great at what they do, especially world creation and storytelling, and the combination of their talents is exciting to consider.

The trailer for The Elden Ring did bring us some great tidbits. The setting appears to combine what we love about George R. R. Martin’s high fantasy series and the gritty action-based world of Dark Souls and Sekiro. The art is amazing, the plot looks intriguing, and the trailer is gorgeous. Fans of both series are bound to be delighted by this meeting of the minds.
