Wordle isn’t for everyone, especially those who are not that into word games. But with the world currently enamored by the game, what is a person who isn’t into Wordle left to do? Thankfully there’s Nerdle, a fun alternative for the mathematically-minded.

What is Nerdle?

Nerdle was inspired by the popular word puzzle game Wordle. After Wordle was created by Josh Wardle in 2021 and took the world by storm, a group of like-minded individuals (written on the site as Richard and Imogen Mann, Marcus, Gavin, and Alex) decided to create a math puzzle game. Launched in 2022, Nerdle has provided a gap for fans of puzzles that felt left out by the focus on Wordle.

How to Play Nerdle

Like Wordle, you are trying to find the correct “term” each day. In Nerdle, however, the term is an equation that must be mathematically correct. Each tile can be filled with a number or mathematic symbol. Green tiles mean that you have chosen the right number or symbol in the right spot. A purple tile means you have the right number or symbol, but it needs to be placed somewhere else in the sequence.

Just like Wordle, you get six guesses to get the equation right in Nerdle. This puzzle can be quite challenging, so don’t be deterred if you don’t win on the first day. This game is definitely an optimal challenge for math nerds.
