April 2020 has been an odd month for Pokémon Go fans. Niantic wants to make it a bit easier for players to stay inside and enjoy the game, which is difficult due to the game relying on players to move around, go outside, and visit different locations in their community. For example, Niantic repeated the legendary shadow Pokémon Giovanni captured to give players another shot and to extend the time everyone has to capture it. For the Research Breakthrough event, the Pokémon people will receive is Alolan Exeggcutor.

The Research Breakthrough event focuses on players completing any of the research tasks they receive from PokéStops, and receiving a stamp for every day. You can only receive a single stamp a day. You don’t miss the seven-day streak if you don’t follow up with completing a research event every day.

At the end of the seven days, you receive an encounter with the Pokémon of the month, which is Alolan Exeggcutor. This variety of Exeggcutor usually is more difficult to find because you can regularly only encounter it during raids, and it’s a rare find in the wild, generally restricted to specific events. The Pokémon for the Research Breakthrough event changes every month.

Alolan Exeggcutor is a Grass and Dragon-type Pokémon. It has a max Cp of 3,014, an attack of 230, a defense of 153, and a stamina of 216. While it may not have the best defensive, it’s a heavy hitter and is perfect if you need to fight off any Water-types that show up in the Great or Ultra league, but it’s not the best Pokémon. Probably a good choice for when you’re raiding against other Pokémon you encounter in gyms. Each time you capture an Alolan Exeggcutor during this event, you also obtain bonus stardust.

The event started on April 1 and runs until May 1.
