Angry Birds is one of the most iconic mobile games, spawning numerous sequels, spinoffs, toys, movies, and animated shows. With the game returning to the App Store on March 31 after an extended two-year absence, many are asking just when did the original Angry Birds come out?
The original Angry Birds game released on Dec. 11, 2009, on iOS with just a single episode called Poached Eggs. However, by Oct. 9, 2012, the definitive version of the game was on iOS that included all 14 original episodes, and the Birbday Party, BirbDay, Bonus Levels, and Golden Eggs bonus episodes.
To muddy the waters, while the original Angry Birds app continued updating for three years, numerous spin-off apps were released alongside it between 2010 and 2015, including Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Star Wars, and Angry Birds Transformers. But it wasn’t until July 2015 when Angry Birds 2, the first real sequel to the game was released.
What’s more, because Angry Birds was primarily an iOS game, before being ported to Google Play, Chrome, and other platforms, it’s been ingrained in people’s brains at different times. But as one of the most popular and successful mobile gaming franchises of all time, even whether you first picked up the game in 2009 or as recently as a few years ago, it’s still bound to have made the same impression with its addictive gameplay!
